The curtain goes up June 5 with the Tony Award winning, DREAMGIRLS. With one of the most stirring, dynamic, rocking, emotional scores ever written for the stage, the show is slathered in R&B, soul, and pop music.

With book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, DREAMGIRLS tells the explosive behind-the-scenes story of a young female rhythm and blues trio from Chicago called “The Dreams”, who climb the turbulent ladder of the music business to become singing superstars.

Musical numbers include I Am Changing,One Night OnlyFamily and the show-stopping, And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.

Back by popular demand after a sell-out 2008 run, LES MISERABLES will attack the stage June 26.

Based on a novel by Victor Hugo, LES MISERABLES tells the musical tale of redemption and revolution in early 19th-century France. Ex-convict, Jean Valjean, becomes a force for good in the world, but cannot escape his dark past as he tries to save himself and those around him.

The award-winning score composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and a book by Alain Boublil, features such memorable musical numbers as On My OwnI Dreamed a DreamDo You Hear the People Sing and Bring Him Home.


July 17 – August 3, 2013  

Everything’s coming up roses July 17, as the 55th season continues to entertain you with the smash musical fable, Gypsy.

Loosely based on the memoirs of striptease artist, Gypsy Rose Lee, GYPSY follows the dreams and disappointments of Mama Rose (played by Charis Leos) and her fight to raise her two daughters, Dainty June and Louise, in the world of 1920’s show business, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born.

With music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Arthur Laurents, GYPSY features the familiar show-stopping songs Some PeopleEverything’s Coming Up RosesTogetherWherever We Go and Let Me Entertain You.


August 7 – 24, 2013

The 2013 MSMT season will close with the East Coast regional premier of Disney’s family favorite, MARY POPPINS, which flies into the Pickard Theatre on August 7. 

Based on the P. L. Travers children’s books and the 1964 Disney film of the same name, anything can and will happen at Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane when the perfect nanny, Mary Poppins, takes charge of the Banks family.

With a book by Julian Fellowes, MARY POPPINS features the film’s familiar music and lyrics by the Academy Award winning Sherman Brothers, along with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

The young and young-at-heart will leave
the theater singing such songs as Chim Chim Cher-eeA Spoonful of SugarFeed the Birds and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.


Children under the age of four are not permitted at our mainstage shows. ?

Charlotte’s Web

Maine State Music Theatre presents the Theatreworks USA production of CHARLOTTE’S WEB. Based on the book by E.B. White, 
CHARLOTTE’S WEB tells the loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte, the show explores Wilbur’s problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman – she will create a "miracle."

Spinning the words "Some Pig" in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale, featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship. (Approximately one-hour in length, recommended for grades K – 5)

The charming fairy tale classic gets a contemporary new twist in Robin and Clark’s imaginative musical version on August 19th. 

Orphaned and lonely, CINDERELLA spends her
days as a housemaid for her wicked step-
mother and lazy step-sisters but, with help
from her enchanted Fairy Godmother, becomes the object of the handsome prince’s affection. Through whimsical music and audience participation, children of all ages are invited
to join in the fun as CINDERELLA learns that dreams really do come true.

The "Age of Aquarius" comes to MSMT for ONE NIGHT ONLY with the Tony Award winning musical, HAIR. Join the flower-power that includes the songs, "Let The Sunshine In," "Aquarius," "Easy To Be Hard, ""Hair," and
"Good Morning, Starshine."

Get out the bell bottoms, tie-dye and love beads and join us for this counter-culture "Be-In," which is sure to be THE groovy event of the summer!

Maine Office of Tourism, Suzanne Nance

SUZANNE NANCE & FRIENDS perform a selection of songs from Opera to Broadway, including La Boheme, Così fan tutte, West Side Story, and more!

Ms. Nance, a singer, actor, and radio broadcaster, is recognized for her “crystalline soprano voice and sparkle on the stage,” and is admired for her versatility, from the concert stage to the operatic arena. Ms. Nance has performed with opera companies, orchestras and musicians throughout the US and in Europe, most recently in Prague, London, Philadelphia, Chicago, and across Maine. 

She is currently the Music Director for Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN) and produces and hosts Morning Classical Music with Suzanne Nance on MPBN Radio.

Footlight Follies

MSMT presents the FOOTLIGHT FOLLIES, an evening of songs, skits and silliness combining the best (and hilarious worst) of talents provided by our own MSMT acting company, staff and Board of Trustees, community members and surprise guests. FOOTLIGHT FOLLIES is an evening of “ theatre” with virtually no rules, featuring skits, singing, dancing, music, comedy and musical spoofers! 

Don’t miss this “one of a kind, laugh a minute” evening.
