Ian RhodesIan Rhodes 2000 MSMT Performance Intern
Big River, Victor/Victoria, Titanic, Sound of Music, Swingtime Canteen

Where he is now After summer 2000, Ian finished college and moved to NYC. He quickly got a touring gig with the National Tour of Mamma Mia! from 2003-2005, playing 51 cities, then direct to Disney’s On The Record with Ashley Brown for another 25 cities. He then moved to L.A., did a feature film and many short films, and landed a couple commercials including a national Apple iPhone 3GS commercial in 2009, working with David Fincher, and another directed by Justin Timberlake.

On being an MSMT intern "The intern experience at MSMT was incredible for me. The opportunity to work with working professionals, from the actors to directors/choreographers, stage managers, staff, was inspiring and putting on the quality of theatre that is widely known about MSMT made me want to get to NYC immediately and take on professional theatre. That summer brought lasting friendships that helped me understand the true community that theatre develops. So unique and rare. It was a blast! I really never felt like an ‘intern’, I felt like the Broadway actor singing next to me. My summer at MSMT, an opportunity I feel very fortunate to have had, and share."

Kyle WrentzKyle Wrentz 2000 MSMT Performance Intern
Big River, Victor/Victoria, Titanic, Sound of Music, Swingtime Canteen

Where he is now Kyle has been able to play wonderful roles regionally such as Jim in Big River and Black in Lippa’s The Wild Party to name a few. He has also traveled the world and lived in fascinating countries such as Hong Kong and Taiwan with his work. He has performed on Broadway as Simba and Scar in Disney’s The Lion King.

On being an MSMT intern "One of the most valuable things I took away from my experience at MSMT, was work ethic.  As an intern, you have many responsibilities throughout the summer, and clearly those who are serious about their craft are there for the experience.  Working with such talented and giving professional individuals, I was given a free master classes while watching the process of great stage actors in rehearsal and throughout the run of the shows.  I learned great time management as interns were in all the shows, sometimes rehearsing one during the day and performing another at night.

"I felt very privileged to be a part of such high quality productions and I even made some life long friends from that very summer.  It’s quite simple, the more you put into the experiences, the more you open your eyes and ears and absorb everything around you, the more you knowledge you will attain for future professional endeavors.  I am proud to have worked at such a wonderful theatre.  I know the continued success of MSMT is due to the amazing staff, who work very hard at making sure that everyone has a pleasant experience each summer."

Amy HalldinAmy Halldin 2001 MSMT Performance Intern
Guys and Dolls, Scarlet Pimpernel, Oklahoma, Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors

Amy is currently living in NYC and doing film, television, commercials and modeling. Amy even walked in her first runway show at this past season’s fashion week!

On being an MSMT intern "MSMT completely impacted my life in a major way. It was the first time in my life I was handed a paycheck for performing. So, that was huge. I also remember things I was taught and still take to heart. I ALWAYS wear great shoes to auditions.  I also remember something Ken Kantor (actor) told me because I was bummed I didn’t land a role. He told me ‘never let the know how much it matters to you’. I still take that with me and think about that. I was so young, and had such little confidence. When I was offered a job as an intern, it was the first time I thought I could really do this. They see something in me that I don’t even see. I was surrounded by such veterans, and they made me feel like one of them. I had never worked in an equity house, and it was SUCH a learning experience, and I took that professionalism with me back to school. I also a few years later worked as an intern for The Walnut Street Theatre, and I absolutely feel it was because I had worked at Maine State. I mean, it was a huge part of my young career and I still feel like I was so lucky to be a part of it."

On being an MSMT intern "I learned a lot about the ‘other side’ of the business working in the costume shop, helping focus lights, striking sets, etc. It gave me a better appreciation of the all sides of the business. I’d go back to MSMT anytime. It’s a fantastic theatre experience in a gorgeous setting with truly talented lovely people."

Lindsay ChambersLindsay Chambers 2002 MSMT Performance Intern
The King and I, Chicago, Ragtime, She Loves Me

Where she is now Lindsay is currently gearing up to start rehearsals for the new Broadway musical Lysistrata Jones! It’s Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, where the women of Athens are withholding sexual privileges from the men until they stop fighting the Pelopennesian War, meets High School Musical. So the cheerleaders aren’t giving it up until the basketball team starts winning games. She’s been working on the show for around 3 years now- a couple years ago we did a production with Dallas Theatre Center, an amazing Off-Broadway run in the summer with the Transport Group and now it’s headed for the Great White Way! Before that, she understudied Penny in Hairspray, and Enid, Kate/Chutney, and Serena in Legally Blonde.

On being an MSMT intern "It was like nothing else I’d done at the time. Besides learning the ins and outs of backstage life (laundry, set building, strike) I had the chance to work with professional actor, singers and dancers from New York City. This is why I really wanted to intern at MSMT- to work with people who are currently working where I was planning on working. It raised our game, gave us insight into the entire process of putting up a show."
