Benefits of the MSMT Internship Program

WORK WITH HIGH CREDENTIAL PROFESSIONALS

Twenty-two talented interns participate in one of the most beneficial intern programs in the country. MSMT maintains extremely high artistic and production standards. You will work with some of the most successful directors, choreographers, designers and performers from New York and New England, whose credits include Broadway, national tours, and regional theatre. You can make valuable connections with leading employers in your field. Interns work in the areas of Carpentry, Electrics, Paints, Properties, Stage Operations, Costumes, Wardrobe, Stage Management, Company Management, Marketing, and Performance.

HANDS ON EXPERIENCE

Your skill and hard work are an integral part of our company. Performance interns are cast in at least two of the four mainstage shows plus the Intern Company show. Technical interns work side by side with professional designers and technicians. In order to encourage more well-rounded artists, all interns are required to work in areas other than that of their expertise in order to gain awareness and appreciation of all the elements of a production. The Intern Company will be putting all of those elements together to put up their own show near the end of the summer.

WEEKLY SEMINARS

The Intern Director, who is a working professional with leading regional theatre companies, will plan a variety of classes and lectures given by guest performers, directors, and our managing and artistic directors. Attendance at all classes is required. Some of last year’s classes included Audition Techniques, Song Interpretation, Resume Preparation, Contract Negotiation, Costumes, Lighting, and Set Design.

HOUSING

MSMT provides free housing at our Intern House. The Intern House is dorm style living, consists of 6 suites, 1 common room and laundry facilities. Four interns share a suite. Each suite is fully furnished and consists of living room with kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom. There is a Public Library next door which provides books, computers, internet access and videos. For those without cars we have a Van Service to help transport interns between the Intern House, the Theatre facilities and other work related functions. We firmly believe our program adds up to a very productive experience and is financially competitive.

EQUITY MEMBERSHIP CANDIDATE POINTS

Performance, stage management and stage op’s interns also have the advantage of earning 13 EMC points towards Equity Membership, one point for each week. (50 Points must be earned in order to qualify for membership in Actors’ Equity Association.) We are one of the few companies that offer EMC points and a stipend! All Performance Interns must join AEA’s EMC Program, if not already in the program. Info to follow upon hiring.

SUPPORTIVE AND SOCIABLE ATMOSPHERE

Perhaps the most important element of our intern program that other companies can’t match is our warmhearted environment! You will be attend several activities in this scenic coastal New England town, some of which are sponsored by our "Angels" volunteer organization. All the company members are team players, and many return year after year for the incredible shows and camaraderie created here!

MSMT is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, political persuasion or belief, marital status, familial status, disability or veteran status.
