Director of Marketing and Communications

The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as a member of MSMT’s leadership team, and is responsible for crafting an effective brand for the theatre, engaging and growing audiences, and generating earned revenue from ticket sales. The successful candidate will be comfortable in a highly collaborative and data-driven environment.

In addition to overseeing the strategy, planning and implementation of all marketing, public relations, media relations, and branding, the Director of Marketing and Communications will work with Audience Services to develop innovative and leading-edge audience development as well as retention initiatives for our subscriber base.


The mission of MSMT is to produce musical theatre and use theatre to enrich, engage and provide live entertainment to the State of Maine and beyond.  Offering four mainstage shows, a concert series and a Theatre for Young Audience series, MSMT brings “Broadway to Brunswick.”

Essential Functions include (but are not limited to):

  • Collaborating regularly with the Managing Director and Artistic Director, mastermind the planning and implementation of all marketing, public relations, and outreach to meet MSMT’s fiscal goals.
  • Grow MSMT’s subscriber and single ticket sales audience base.
  • Increase the public profile and interest in MSMT both locally and nationally.
  • Create and execute communications strategies to educate and inform current supporters about activities and accomplishments.
  • Support the development of community engagement of the theatre.
  • Manage annual expense budgets to run all marketing, publicity, media and graphic design efforts and operations.
  • Design all print and digital media, including show playbills, advertising, fundraising materials annual reports, signage, marquees, etc.
  • Manage the MSMT website and oversee its development.
  • Manage all MSMT social media channels.
  • Collaborate with the Development Department to integrate organizational strategy and customer relationship management in marketing and fundraising efforts.

The following qualifications are required:

  • At least five years of increasingly responsible and successful experience in marketing or communications.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Ability to inspire people with diverse backgrounds to work effectively together toward shared objectives.
  • Strategically minded. Able to leverage data to craft excellent marketing plans.
  • Excellent communicator with external and internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • A strong passion for MSMT’s dedication to the company’s principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism, and access.
  • Enthusiasm to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends, especially during the summer season. Some events could be off-site, an up-to-date driver’s license and clean driving record is required.
  • A knowledge of theatre and experience with Ticketing CRM platforms a plus.

Vaccination: MSMT is a fully vaccinated company.  All employees must be fully vaccinated and have had all available vaccine boosters against the Covid-19 virus.  Copies of vaccination cards should be submitted on the date of hire.

Testing- Before 1st Day of Work: All employees must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 1 day, 24 hours of their start date.  You may use an Antigen self-test.  Proof of negative results must be emailed to the Company Manager prior to start date.  Testing may be required at any time while employed at MSMT.
