SUPPORT THE THEATRE

Maine State Music Theatre’s mission is to “enrich lives through musical theatre.” As a 501(c)(3) organization, we must rely on our donors’ generosity to fulfill this mission. Only a small percentage of our budget comes from ticket sales, so we must continually fundraise to present the quality musicals, concerts, and family shows our audiences have come to love.

Nearly 200 theater-makers travel from around the country every summer to join the MSMT team. Each person has a role to play, whether as a carpenter, stitcher, or dancer; these pieces must connect seamlessly. Here are just a few expenses that the general operating fund must cover:

• COSTUMES: $110,000/show. Over 750 costume pieces were built for Kinky Boots (including 200 pairs of shoes!)
• MICROPHONES: $3,000/actor
• DRY CLEANING: $2,000/week
• HOUSING: $2K-$4K/person. In addition to MSMT-owned housing, between 80 and 120 rooms are rented each summer for staff
• TRANSPORTATION: $650/person
• PAINT: $58/gallon. Most shows require more than 30 gallons of paint

CREATE YOUR LEGACY

The Living Legacy Circle was created to recognize those individuals who share our passion for musical theatre and are committed to securing MSMT’s future. If you have already arranged such a gift, please let us know so we can welcome you as the newest member of The Living Legacy Circle.

The many Living Legacy Circle options include naming MSMT as a beneficiary of your will, a living trust, a life insurance policy, or a retirement plan. Your attorney or financial advisor can advise you on the options available.

As a member, you will receive our special thanks in several ways:

A Gift Through Your Will or Trust

After providing for the future financial security of your loved ones, you may make a bequest to Maine State Music Theatre to receive:

• A residual gift after distributions to loved ones has been fulfilled.
• A fixed, specific dollar amount.
• A percentage of your estate.
• Specific property, such as real estate.

A Gift of Appreciated Securities

When considering what assets to use to make gifts to MSMT, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other securities can be attractive options and offer unique tax benefits.

Congress has provided that you can deduct the total value of such gifts, including any amount owed in capital gains tax if sold. Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock directly to MSMT.

If you’re sending a gift of stock, please contact our Development team at 207-725-0150 with your broker’s name, phone number, stock name, and the number of shares you are donating.

Giving for Income

You can elect to leave a legacy to MSMT at the same time that you generate income for yourself or your loved ones in several ways:

• Charitable Remainder Trust allows you to ensure the financial well-being of your family and provide a deferred gift to MSMT.
• Charitable Lead Trust can be designed to provide income payments to MSMT for a period measured by a fixed term of years, after which you or a beneficiary receives the remaining trust assets.
