Maine State Music Theatre is committed to helping young audiences experience the magic of theatre by providing Theatre for Young Audiences performances each season. However, a standard theatrical experience may not always be accessible for children with social, cognitive, or physical challenges.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Anna-Maria Moggio Foundation, Maine State Music Theatre will create sensory-friendly performances of Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland during the 2017 season designed for families with children with autism or other disabilities that create sensory sensitivities.
Both performances will take place in the 22 Elm Street Rehearsal Hall – a performance environment that is safe and accessible for children who may be uncomfortable in the theatre’s more traditional main stage setting at the 600-seat Pickard Theater.
The project – inspired by a 2016 successful pilot performance – gives the theatre the opportunity to demonstrate further its commitment to be an inclusive, supportive community providing theatrical experience for all patrons.
There is no admission fee for these events but reservations are required. Seating is limited. Call 207-725-8769 to reserve seats.
