A special fundraising event for Maine State Music Theatre and the Maine Historical Society

Step into history for an unforgettable evening that brings the story of America’s founding to life. As Maine State Music Theatre prepares to stage 1776 this summer, join us for a rare opportunity to experience the past up close and in person. Held at the Maine Historical Society, this intimate event centers around one of only 26 surviving Dunlap Broadsides of the Declaration of Independence, printed on July 4, 1776, and distributed throughout the colonies to announce a new nation.

The evening begins with welcome remarks from MSMT Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, followed by a special musical performance from the MSMT Singers, setting the tone for a night that blends history and artistry. Guests will then enjoy a curator-led exploration of Pathways to Freedom in small groups, offering deeper insight into the people, ideas, and decisions that shaped the birth of the United States. A wine-and-cheese reception will round out the evening, providing time to connect, reflect, and celebrate in a truly unique setting.

This special event is a fundraiser supporting both Maine State Music Theatre and the Maine Historical Society, two organizations dedicated to preserving and sharing powerful stories from the past and present.

Parking is available at lots around the Historical Society.
