SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES

Maine State Music Theatre offers Sensory Friendly performances at some of our Family Theatre shows so all audiences may enjoy the theater.

Adjustments may include:

  • Reduction of any loud and jarring sounds
  • Eliminating strobe and flashing lights
  • House lights will be faintly dimmed but remain on
  • Reduction of any elements of the show that might be considered “scary”
  • A Quiet Room will be available for anyone needing a break from the show
  • Online (and print) guide materials are available to help prepare for the show or follow during performance
  • A team of employees and volunteers will be available to offer support throughout the theatre
  • A special fidget toy will be given to each child attending the performance
  • Interactive introduction to the show, performers, costumes, and technical effects offered at start of presentation
  • Meet & greet/photo opportunity with cast follows performance

MSMT’s Sensory Friendly Performance Series is free to the public. We thank the National Endowment for the Arts, the Onion Foundation, and The Midcoast Charitable Foundation for their generous gifts that help support this initiative.
